A great company with great management styles
CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST (Former Employee) - Durban, KwaZulu-Natal - 7 October 2022
The workload, just like any other engineering firm is quite strenuous , however being a part of a team that was supportive and understanding made the hard work so much more worth it. One of the best companies to work for. Their culture is amazing, with great managers, that are understanding and actively involved in ensuring that they cultivate a good work environment for all employees. I would highly recommend Arup to any job seekers out there.

The good type of challenging
Mechanical Engineer (Current Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 2 June 2022
Your experience and career is what you make it. Arup is structured to give you so much support and resources to those who need it and look for it. They environment is great but you should make it an effort to make it better. There is a strive for holistic excellence in the projects we do and a lot of drive for excellence as an individual. Everyone is always learning new things everyday and growing technically in so many different was it is amazing. I love that you get to share information with colleagues around the world and also get to work with them on various projects across the globe. There are opportunities abroad if your passion lies in places where it is best suited to grow and hopefully bring back should it be useful. And what I love is that because everyone is learning to be better, everyone is willing to help one another. I love that it is very inclusive for all races and genders and cultures, etc. As much as I am not happy with the pay, it is really difficult to trade-off the opportunities and culture for a better salary (not that the salary is that bad).

Associate Director / Deputy Project Director / Project Manager, NMPP / EPCM (Former Employee) - ZA - 11 June 2021
would be a good company if they were fair to the employees, employees put a lot into their jobs but get a little reward, i made the 10million Sterling profit in 3 years and could not get a bonus for the team, i had to fight for it, they should stick to what they know and that is civil work
Pros
none
Cons
long hours, no guidance from senior management, profit only as much as possible

Productive and collaborative workplace
Civil/Structural Engineer (Current Employee) - Johannesburg, Gauteng - 19 April 2020
-typical day at work would include team meetings, liaising with external consultants, design work and doing reviews with team members
-the working environment is very dynamic and energy filled, Constantly collaborating and reviewing work. A sense of family and togetherness is present.
-I have learned a variety of skills including technical design, modelling financial, resourcing, project management.
-Like any job, when deadlines have to be met the situation is quite stressful and late nights are required but as a team, help is always available
-The most enjoyable part of the job getting to work with a vibrant dynamic team and sharing ideas on how to do things better. I value the collaborative atmosphere and the large knowledge base that we have (local and international) at our disposal

Arup review
Document Controller (Former Employee) - Johannesburg, Gauteng - 9 May 2016
The good things
Creative thought encouraged for engineers, beginning to embrace change in some respects. Flexible working for most.
The challenges
Poor accountability and opportunities for career development are limited for non-engineer roles. Opportunities for advancement always go to the same people
