Proper training was severely lacking for me from day one. Equipment was old and never worked properly half the time. Although offices are in Canada, IT help is in Africa and done over the phone or over the computer, so it is impossible to get any kind of help in a timely fashion. You can wait anywhere from 3 days to two weeks for someone to get back to you. At that point, you've figured it out for yourself; extremely frustrating. If there is an issue with a co-worker (bullying or harassing) and you bring it forward, it's just not dealt with. You are expected to work super long days from about Feb - June. This is never mentioned to you in your interview. Maybe they need to hire more staff so that people aren't working 12 - 14 hour days... Sure you may get 4 or 5 weeks of vacation/personal time, but you also can't take it the first part of the year and then the last part of the year you can only take the time, if no one else has booked that time... so it's really not worth it.
Training" was terrible and then they expect you to perform from shoddy and very minimal time with a "trainer" with 0 errors. If you ask questions, they repeat over and over how you should already know the answer and/or are very condescending in their reply. Supervisor refused to answer questions about why errors were counted when there was no apparent reason for them to be errors. Management is awful. Couldn't care less about you as a person. You are set up for failure, not success. Billable hours are not enough to achieve the goals. Nobody wants to know anything about anyone. I barely saw any human like quality from anyone. If work isn't perfect they will put you on an "improvement plan" that is only for show. You will not actually have any way of being successful after this point. The only reason I even gave this place one star is because it was required. As another reviewer said, STAY. AWAY.
+ fast paced environment, great learning curve - underappreciated efforts, quick burnout - non-competitive pay - no overtime pay - almost nonexistent allowance, very stingy - medium size firm means workload is at least as bad as (if not worse than) big4, but with lesser salary - super long hours
There is a good working environment . Workmates are friendly and fun to work with. There is a culture of team work and professionalism. The customer is always put first.
The environment is highly toxic. Senior management micromanage service lines they have no knowledge or experience in. Extremely disrespectful leadership team with a bizarre gossip and rumor culture. High turnover in every sector of the organization. Low pay, little to no respect, high turnover, disregard for client betterment and only regard for their own pockets. Stay away and save yourself the headache
This office is top notch even among other BDO offices. The partner group is the highest quality and they expect the work to reflect that. They foster a great learning environment. Public accounting busy seasons are intense, but there is so much learned after everyone.
BDO is a very driven organization. They are good in that sense. A company that knows what they want from people. Overall management is very good but not all managers give appropriate direction. Still a great place to work if you work for the right manager with the right fit for you.
The place is a shambles with power hungry, ignorant and selfish senior management. No progression...failing systems....no accountability.....4 managers left within the space of 9 months which tells you everything......Avoid! No backing from HR when the whole team raised points of bully tactics and stress from poor working conditions....
Its a place where you can learn a lot from different indistries and meet important people in different organisation
A typical day is an 8 hour work and during the peak period may work for 14 hours. I have learnt to manage my time and supervise an audit assignment from start to finish. Management is quite equipped knowledge wise and understand people they work with, however, sometimes inconsiderate as far as time is concerned. Encouraging junior staff to work on weekends which they feel is their private time to rest and connect with family is difficult. What I enjoy the most is being in charge of assignment and take on more responsibility.
