Work was easy, extended days and weekends while monitoring email perpetually. BDO doesn't have depth, skills or brand of competition; target other firms for career growth, skill development and resume/relationship building.
Insurance good, generous PTO (if/when you can take it).
"BDO" brand. Extended hrs/wknds = never "off hours."
Large National firm with a typical practice of over-hiring lower level staff and providing limited advanced training. With such low quality training at lower levels, employees are expected to learn as they go and have limited assistance in learning the correct way.
Work life balance is non-existant

Do these reviews help you learn more about working at BDO?
The hours can be long and the travel intense at times; however, it's a great place to gain experience if that is what you want. I prefer having a life and freedom.
I have learned a ton about Microsoft Excel and a lot of basics revolving around internal controls, various financial statement areas and related testing, and the auditing process in general. For the most part, my co-workers and management were great, but like any place there are a few bad apples. If you do what you're supposed to do, there is plenty of room to advance. Compensation once you begin advancing seems to be more about who you know and who likes/dislikes you than the amount/quality of the work you put in, but it could be like that everywhere. The hardest part of the job is managing the long busy season hours. If you have kids at home, this is much more difficult to juggle. The most enjoyable part of the job is the co-workers. Most jobs come down to the people you work with, and like I said, for the most part, I work with some excellent people.
Lot of learning opportunities, ability to experience multiple industries, good overall office culture, very nice people, plenty of opportunities to get CPE while on the clock
Busy season hours, scorecard system constantly in flux, compensation below average, expanding faster than they can hire staff, audit workspace often is slow/time consuming to use and you must use it
I have really loved working with BDO. They are an amazing company. BDO values work life balance and their employees. The people I've worked are great people who care a lot of their profession as well as your needs. They will try their best to help any of their employees accomplish their professional goals. If you want to go work for a public accounting firm, go BDO. "People who know, know BDO."
