It was an interesting experience working with this international engineering company (US Based). I learnt a lot about job procedures and how to best manage my time with the contractors. The hardest part of the job was getting used to the way they operate, and the most enjoyable part was mixing with the various expat engineers.

Resume Builder, great opportunity ,team mates outstanding ,B&V good place to work. I really don't have any negative feedback on B&V, The government in South Africa changed there visa programs and lead to a lot of dissatisfied project members.

Good place to work and learn.

Good place to work if you are able to travel and not need to be tied down in any one location. B&V seems to have plenty of work coming in waves at times.

Black & veatch has a great culture, its like home at work.

A typical day is basicaly different from the previous, since every day we plan to come up with better ways to do the job. Sticking to my daily plan is important. I might have 2-7 inspections but thats the norm and try to mitigate delays and keep the client happy.

Challenging and rewarding

Most days involve the application of advanced project controls techniques and analyses in support of the client’s outage management projects and in providing a transfer of skill and knowledge in the fields of project management, outage planning and scheduling. Sometimes I work autonomously but mostly as part of a small dedicated team in the field, which is fully supported by our management team based in Johannesburg. The hardest part of the job is managing the on site culture in respect of trying to improve procedures and processes to deliver more effective and efficient outcomes to the clients objectives. It is extremely satisfying when this is achieved.

Productive and challenging work place

Working in the Kusile project brings a ever changing dynamic to the daily norm of meetings and site inspections. Working with contractors is a challenge with regards to them agreeing with one thing and then attempting to do something completely different and taking the proverbial "shortcuts" which could put personnel in danger of injury and property damage. It is our job to ensure that it is identified and stopped in it's tracks. My biggest achievement is reaching 7.2 million hours LTI (lost time injuries) with my contractor. I have learnt with team work anything is possible with having facts, articulating the point at hand with reason and accuracy and showing the benefits in the short and reaping the benefits in the long term, not just for the company but for the project as a whole.

Pros

Meeting diverse people with colourful personalities

Cons

little time with family

Productive and fun workplace

Start at 7am , arrange work to be done from critical to less critical followed by toolbox talk.Start with critical drawings, attend scheduled meetings and add new requested to work list.A big project like this makes you think outside the box and you learn to work under procure and how to handle all situations. Most off all you learn how to work with people! A lot of experience is gained from the project! I have wonderful co-workers! It’s such a pleasure working with all of them! They are always helpful!Hardest part of the job is the long hours!!! From 7am-5pm.Most enjoyable part is when your co-workers are satisfied with their requested drawings!Best part is 5pm!!!

Cons

long hours
