Smart people

Worked with some very smart people on interesting projects. But the cyclical nature of consulting left me concerned about job security. Had a very good safety program.

Toxic management and less than great benefits

Overworked and under appreciated. They hire managers that are bosses and not leaders. you learn a lot because a lot is put on your plate. The work culture is toxic and silo based. The hardest part of the job is the turnover and having to train managers that are less experienced than you . The most enjoyable part of the job is work and life balance.The benefits are not great and you are lucky if you get a 3% annual merit increase . Only the elite survive and reap the corporate benefits here such as participation in the stock and such elite events

Mediocre benefits, terrible 401K vesting, toxic management with lots of turnover

Challenging and rewarding

The Good:The company values its employees and often has a positive company culture. This can lead to a better work-life balance and a more supportive environment. The company provides its employees with the opportunity to work on projects that are meaningful and have a positive impact on society, which can increase job satisfaction and motivation.The Bad:Employment is project-based for only 3–4 years before searching for new jobs.The salary package is not in line with past inflation all over the world.

Good tenure as a coop student
Corporate Marketing/Technical Writer Co-Op (Former Employee) - Boston, MA - 2 May 2023
I worked at CDM Smith as a co-op student for nearly 5 months primarily for their corporate marketing department. It was a role that gave me exposure to the A/E/C (Architecture, Engineering, Construction industry, corporate marketing and administrative environments. I performed a variety of special projects ranging from data entry, article sourcing, online research, audio file transcription, document editing and file management and much more. I enjoyed working with my assigned team and felt fairly compensated as a new hire during my tenure

Close proximity to restaurants, friendly employees, employee work shuttle
Cons
Sometimes days could feel repetitive

Good place to work but there is space for improvement

Salary and benefits are good. To many managers and a lot of policies to follow. The will not consider you for another job position when your project is over and will send you home.

Good culture, and benefitsCould have better pay raises but they give a standard raise of 2.5-3 percent each year but you can get quickly under market so it’s best to leave after that point

Good Working Environment

As an intern at CDM Smith, I was exposed to many different tasks and areas by reaching out to many different members of the team. The people were definitely easy to talk to and helped me out when I would ask. The part I enjoyed the least was just that it did not feel like there was much for me to do as an intern.

Great company culture

I had such a great experience with the employees here. Everyone looks out for each-other, and you're encouraged to explore new interests. The only con was that as an intern I sometimes lacked guidance.

Good place to learn

CDM Smith is is a great place to learn engineering. It suffers somewhat from trying to implement lots of new processes and procedures all at once. Like any consulting firm, work-life-balance can be a challenge.

Appreciated the opportunity

CDM Smith's role was a recruiter for placing folks in temporary jobs for the Federal government. Really enjoyed the task/challenge while in the engineering position. Only heard from CDM Smith's management couple times a year as it seemed like they needed to give report to the Feds on our well-being; no sincere care with the team; just felt like cash cows for the company - sent out to work with no interest or responsibility.

If you like flexibility and collaboration
Construction Manager (Current Employee) - California - 11 September 2022
CDM Smith is based on a matrix style business model. The means you don't really have a direct report and you are not confined to a specific team/group. Down side: you supervise might be in another time zone. Up side: you can be creative and you have a lot of autonomy.
