Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedI spent about 18 years of my life working for De Beers, and I don't have a single regret about it. I have built relationships that are lasting up to this day. I've worked with excellent people, and teams. Looking back, I realise that the people of De Beers are a true family. I think that the company lives up to the value, "show we care". I believe that the company allowed me to grow tremendously

Productive and fun experience
Metallurgist in training (Current Employee) - Musina, Limpopo - 15 April 2017
everyday job is to monitor the plant and do quality assurance. In cases where there is a plant delay or machine breakdown I then do ivestigations (root cause anaylisis) and come up with solurions ( small group discussions with collegues).
One of the most impotant thing that I have learned is safety and efficiency. do not compromise safety at the cost of ones life.
It is very important to listen to fellow colleagues and guide each other when one is blind. The culture is that everyone is a leader, therefor take accoutability for everything you do.
The hardest part of the job is when conviencing supporting departments on work I want to be done but they already having a negative mindset about it. The most enjoyable part of the Job is when all department work as a team towards a common goal , being it a project or achieving production targets at most efficient way.
Pros
Good/excellent job is recognised and appriciated
Cons
12 hours shift work

Snr TMM Supervisor (Current Employee) - Musina, Limpopo - 22 March 2016
Working on a contractor has to deliver the task and you have to do over-inspections was bit challenging more especially when procedures and standards are not yet in place. overall the semi-skilled are the once willing to learn on how things are supposed to be done. When things falls into place, section was running like well oiled engine.
Pros
Free transport from home to work and including free accommodation as well as food.
Cons
Heat was a challenging factor

Load&haul Foreman (Former Employee) - Musina, LP - 12 February 2015
To implement the planning done the previous day and make changes if necessary. Make sure everyone understand the plan and that they buy into it. I have learned over the years that if there is involvement from the team there is always room for improvement. The most difficult part of the job is to bridge the communication gap between management and the workers so that each and everyone can work towards a common goal and that transparency rules.
The most enjoyable part of the job is success where everyone is celebrating the end product
Pros
teamwork
Cons
poor communication

Good place to gain experience and be fully grounded
HR Manager (Current Employee) - Musina, LP - 22 January 2015
Work starts early at 7pm and its a high pace environment with customers that are very impatient.
Always need to be energetic and be flexible because anything can happen and disturb your planning for the day.
My co workers are very passionate about about the people they service and live by company values of working and pulling together to make HR and Venetia mine a success for everyone including the communities around.
The hardest part of the job is working till very late at night and also seeing workers working very hard every but not able to achieve their targets to get production incentives. Some of the reason are out of their control, i.e. exchange rates, load shedding etc.
I enjoy working with people everyday putting a smile on their faces and taking the organisation through change management process to transform it for the better of all.
Pros
Development
Cons
Mining towns (you get called to work any time)

Great company to work for.
Manager: Geology (Current Employee) - Musina, LP - 9 January 2014
Typical day starts with production meeting, were the Plan-Do-Review of the previous day and new plans are communicated for that specific day. Team then go out in the field to execute the plan, results are communicated back through email, telephone and formal reports. Interaction takes place on a cross-functional level.
I have gained experience since I joint as a young graduate in 2005, and i have developed through the ranks to a manager position. A number of acting assignment at Senior Manager has also help me grow and to know more about Ore Processing, Mining and Mine Planning, as well as Mine Financial Evaluation.
The management team comprises of members who are highly driven, and see the best in people, they believe in the excellence of the human spirit.
Fellow co-workers are great people sometimes they can be locked into their work, but are very sociable people.
The hardest part of the job is going back to your colleagues and senior manager to communicate potential production losses and impact on the mine plan.
Most enjoyable is when the team realises that they are about to achieve budget targets, then the team develops this Can-Do believe, and the morale just lifts and everyone rallies behind the key deliverables.
Pros
Excellence is recognised and rewarded.
Cons
the mine is 80 km away from town, so daily travel is 2 hours on the road.

Instrument technician (Current Employee) - Musina, LP - 12 December 2013
I was helping my co-worker to do fault finding on analog card the Instrument were reading overange.I learn that the zero volts in a four wire system is common one faulty instrument can pull down the voltage to the whole card.We disconnect all the instruments and connect one by one until we find the faulty one.The hardest part was to differential between four wire system and two wire sytem for analog card. The enjoyable was when we solve the problem,
Pros
