Escom/Evkom was far more better managed especially financially. High amounts paid for electricity were immeduately invested which is not happening any more and that is naturally a lost of income from interest received
Still one of the better Gov / Parastatel to work for
Serious lack of vision about consequences of wrong or bad desisions taken
If I could get a chance to work for Eskom again I would grab it with both hands. But I would ask for an adjustment with salary . Eskom is a good working environment, safety and stressless.
I was a Generalist HR Practitioner. I was a link between employees, looking after well being of employees. Responsible for recruitment of staff from lower level to senior level. Responsible for industrial relations. In-take of learners. Exit interviews.
Salary was good and I enjoyed on job travelling and working in different provincies and different plant across South Africa. It was a well managed working environment but the challenge was to work abnormal hours most of the times
It starts at 07:30hours and ends at 16:00hrs and it is full of fun and challenges, mostly being the Managemant that we are surrounded with that l feel like they like to manage people not the work, but overall l love my working and waking everyday to work.
The day began with morning meetings to review previous day tasks. I learned effective communication and reporting on time. Team work is recommended at all times to achieve favorable results In general the workplace is incredible. I enjoyed group activity as one would have opportunity to solve queries rising. Management is good.
Training and awareness campaigns
Long distance driving and long hours
Eskom is a very good company it groomed me. I learned to work as a team, the co workers and management they are very kind and friendly. It is very good in trainings because they offer all the trains
The lab results of the power plant cycle chemistry indicated that the pH of all the samples of the circuit was acidic, regardless of the ammonium hydroxide that was being dosed. The sulphates levels were high throughout the circuit, but chlorides were on acceptable level. It was suspected that the condensate polisher resins entered the feed and boiler systems, thermal degrade and leaches sulphates and lower the pH. I was difficult to convince management to shutdown the plant for resins strainer inspection, however a buy in was achieved after highlighting the consequences of running under those conditions and reference to the chemistry governance document. The machine was shut down. There was a good cooperation from production and maintenance department with regards to planning and execution of the inspection and repairs of the resin trap strainer. Since this was the first incident I have been exposed to, I have learnt that it is crucial to incorporate resin strainers inspections during opportunity maintenance.
