Productivity influenced by political interference
Senior Environmental Advisor (Former Employee) - Megawatt Park, Gauteng - 1 February 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedEskom was a good company to work for with great benefits until it was stricken by state capture corruption. Some benefits were taken away and some remained with old employees and no longer applied to new recruits. The performance bonus and annual increase was taken away from all managerial positions (MPS band) since 2017/18 while lower positions (bargaining) benefits and annual salary increases continues through negotiations by union. This impacted bad on MPS employees because inflation rates continue annually and affects all citizens. This saw most skilled employees leaving Eskom for greener pastures, which also added to decrease in productivity due to loss of skills within the company.
Pros
Service leave over and above normal Labour Law leave, but only after 10 years of service
Cons
Long hours working from home without compensation for managerial positions (MPS band)

I love Eskom, the culture is excellent. The women empowerment policies are excellent and in place. Chances of growth is also top notch. I can’t really complain. The only problem is that Eskom is a government business, so it get’s overwhelming when there is bad reviews, the public gets involved too.
Pros
Excellent benefits
Cons
Public interest

During November there is a thirteenth cheque paid to each employee.Eskom also have merit system where each employee sit together with his/her supervisor to discuss about his performance during the last previous twelve months. If his/her performance was very good he will be paid a lot of money on July in that year.

There is one hour lunch everyday.Employees are allowed to work eight hours per day .
Cons
The company is very strict about safety rules; theft, fighting and other misconducts are strictly prohibited.

Productive and Fun workplace
Electrical Technician (Former Employee) - Durban, KwaZulu-Natal - 8 February 2022
It is a highly technical environment with a lot of skilled personnel. Because the company was not doing well financially it cut down on salary increases, bonuses and other allowances. If you want to advance your skills in the electrical engineering field, Eskom is the company to work for.
Pros
Good personal and professional development . Eskom invests in the upskilling of their staff.
Cons
No salary increases and bonuses. Cut down on many allowances.

Too start and end Your Career
Health Physics Technician (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 6 July 2021
As an intern/person looking for experience or finishing off your working career Eskom is really good, their training, attention development of staff knowledge and benefits are great. If you do not fit in the boxes they set out you will die slowly, to succeed is not easy if you do not fit the profile. Management can be rather poor, but if you want safety and comfort that is great.
Pros
benefits package, safe environment, world class training
Cons
long hours, work/home in balance, media and personal critique every time you step outside your door

Employees get to be evaluated for their personal performance and recommend for recognition.
