Cracks are forming, but job is ok. Wouldn't be my first choice if I had options. Culture is becoming more like a traditional consulting firm, with a good ole boys vibe. Promotion path is unclear, pay is on the low side, especially for consulting. People are leaving in droves.

I was very disappointed in the lack of experience in the management at Navigant. In addition to the lack of experience, they come across with a know-it-all attitude. It wasn't an ideal job, in my opinion.
Pros
Time off policy was fair
Cons
Management inexperience, pay, work/life balance

Navigant is split into several different practice areas. Some of these practice areas are effectively previously purchased companies that have retained their own culture.
Your specific manager dramatically changes how you are treated and utilized at Navigant. Where I worked, the objective was to work the employees 70+ hours per week every week to keep billable hours up. No amount of work was too much work and no amount of work would keep you from being accused of slacking off and wasting company time. Most of the employees in my group were trapped at Navigant due to requiring work visa sponsoship from Navigant. This allowed management to drive the group harder and harder, as the majority of the group could not quit.

Personally, I tried to resign three times, and was only then given substantial raises to stay.

Leadership is always in flux, a majority of the young talent uses the firm as a stepping stone for a more reputable company.Tend to work employees into the ground for very little compensation.

Navigant consulting was not a fit for me, with a management structure that encouraged competition between staff to to gain interesting assignments rather than providing opportunity for all. Resulting in a very "in" vs"out" culture.
Pros
Good compensation

Fragmented practices, every group doing their own thing
Demanding work/life balance in face of uncertain/ill timed engagements

Getting buisness in is the only way to move up.

Doesn't have strong mentor/mentee program, doesn't value periodic training/feedback as it should.

The healthcare consulting division is "up and coming" in the overall corporation, with thoughtful leadership that considers future trends, but can get sidetracked by too many initiatives. A silo-mentality is prevalent, but seemed to be undergoing a change and, if successful, a change would go a long way towards making the environment and work culture much more valuable and interesting.

There is a somewhat entrepreneurial atmosphere where you can make your career as you choose - as long as your utilization remains high. As in any consulting company, utilization is paramount and if it's not there, you may not be either. But again, you can have some control over your career by stepping outside your silo and being assertive and proactive.
Pros
Entrepreneurial spirit, great colleagues on teams
Cons
Typically conservative thinking of larger corporations

This has been a wonderful company to begin my career with. I was always given additional responsibilities and being challenged when I voiced the need for more. The travel required for the Healthcare practice if 80%+. There is no way around this as they expect you to travel M-Th weekly.
