Long working hours

Indeed Featured review

The most useful review selected by Indeed
The metrics on which you are evaluated on are insane. Taking vacation goes against your performance metrics. Pay is solid if you love working long hours. Management in Reston is stricter

Great company

Offers many opportunities for career growth. Pay and benefits are unmatched. Hours are not as bad as many make them out to be, expect 44 to 48 hours per week, but plenty of PTO to make up for it.

Non-existent work life balance, just a number

Such crazy high expectations and split wearing so many "hats" that it just takes away from the overall quality of work. Little to no work life balance, or should I say work life 'integration'. Bonus nice, but will never make up for the hours spent

Thumbs up

I have had no complaints working here pay and benefits are top notch smaller office so you don't get the big corporate feel of some of the bigger offices

Sounds nicer than it is.

What is the best part of working at the company?Obviously the people there for the most part are great to work with because you’re in the dump together. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Deadlines and budgets, like most jobs but this was the most intense turnarounds and budget management. They’re obsessed with having everything billable so they lack training. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Clingy and Toxic. They force you into sharing things about yourself for anyone who prefers work to be work and not a social group hang it was tough. The quick turnarounds on jobs and absolute noise from people gossiping made it impossible to get work done quietly. What is a typical day like for you at the company?10 hours days no lunch. Constant emails and random side quests from jobs that should have been updated weeks ago but nobody has enough time to QC so everything is rushed.

Great place to grow

The people here care more than anything that you learn about the job youre doing. People would take time out of their day to show me how to do something new to me. No one ever made me feel bad for asking questions (I asked alot), and they truly love what they do

Great Place to Grow

Lots of talented and smart mentors to help you start your career. They put a lot of time into employees’ training. Utilization time is heavily emphasized.

Honestly stay away

Just don’t work for them. This place is littérature a pressure cooker and it’s easy to just burn out there because of how ridiculous their UT rate is. But to each their own

Wish it was more beneficial

I was excited to start my Internship with KH. I was quickly met with poor management, no "structured" feedback as an Intern. Felt like I was a machine to help them get through their busiest time so management can take PTO. Co-workers are great but burnout is a REAL thing here at KH. Prepare yourself if you accept a job here.

pay is the main perk

pros: pay is extremely competitive, benefits are really good, bonuses are also high. cons: diversity and inclusion practices are shallow, work expectations are 45 billable hours a week, PTO hurts your utilization, majority white employees, have heard lots of stories about toxic work environments

Could be better

... significantly better, especially in the office I sit in. Bonuses are great, but be ready to sacrifice an insane amount of personal time at the expense of the job.

Ok

As an hourly employee i do not have to nor am i expected to put in OT. Dont love mandatory travel, pressure to constantly “network” and socialize. Flexibility but required to be in office and micromanaging by certain people. Have to charge time to projects for UT goals.

Poor management

Deceptive and performative managers exploiting young staff and gossiping nonstop about everyone at all levels. Culture began declining very quickly at start of COVID. Not worth it.

Its aight

Very solid company. They have you doing alot but leaves you open to improve and grow if you want to. If you want a job where you sit back and dont have to do much or just have to do the bare minimum probably not for you.

It's Great but Comes with a lot of costs

Kimley-Horn tends to prioritize exploiting their analysts. However - there are great learning opportunities and the pay is great once you're above a certain level.

Everything comes at a cost

Been working here for about 3.5 years now. My team operates really well and know how to balance workload amongst all team member so that not one person is overloaded. However, I have not heard it is the same even with other teams in the office . I would definitely say my team is an anomaly. Want a bigger bonus? It’s gonna come at a cost of taking on more work/responsibilities.

Only work here if you want to work here forever.

This company is structured like a law firm you put in your time working tons of hours in hopes of someday making partner. Maybe around age 45 ish. Then you still work hard but your compensation is a lot higher. Work life balance is nearly non existent. If you say you won’t work weekends you are shamed. It’s best for workaholic types. They do provide 10k ish bonuses so that’s nice but they make you work for it.

Pros

Always some thing to do.

Cons

No work life balance and pay is just ok.

Great Company of Great People Growing out of its Great Culture

KHA doubled in size in the 3.5 years I was there. I met some inspiring people and the culture and position were perfect for an emerging engineer like myself. However shortly after an organization (region) split and a new HR team the year before, I was terminated after struggling with personal issues that interfered with my job performance. I feel like when I needed to slow down the company was only focused on who could move at the current speed and I was viewed as a liability. Overall, I would recommend KHA to anyone on the engineering field, in hopes that KHA is still the company that hired me.

Pros

Culture, compensation, experience and opportunity

Cons

Unclear work load, disconnected from home office from shifting

High pay long hours

Company pays very well, however when they say you will look long hours they are not kidding. Average work days are between 9-12 hours a day. You also have a Utilization score which is a major factor in your yearly bonus. In terms of PTO they "technically" give you PTO but you have to make up that time as it counts against your UT. If you like being married to your job and don't have many other commitments then have at it. If you've got a family I'd find some where else to work. Your time is more important than their money.

Learned a lot but terrible work life balance

I can't say I didn't learn a lot because I did. However, the UT goals and constant feeling of burnout was not worth my time. PMs are inexperienced and blame analysts. Taking vacation counts against your UT goal so you have to make up hours. Stay away if you value your free time.

Great team but long hours

Extra work is always expected of you so work/life balance issues and feeling burnout are common. There’s a lot of learning opportunities, great projects, and great staff but you’re always feeling overwhelmed with work.
