Modikwa mine is a platinum mine situated in the eastern limb of the bushveld complex. It is the largest employer in the area at 5000 employees ( incl. Contractors). I had 12 solid years at Modikwa, of which 11 years out of 12, I the head of processing.
Great growth potential due to the amount of reserves it has.
The environment is political.

In this company people are working very hard because there is motivation(bonus)According to me all the people who work in this mine they will work in every mine in south Africa, meaning if somebody manage to supervise in here He/she can be able to work at any mine.Safety is very good in this company and Production 600m2 per crew in a 30m panel, but some crews manage to blast 900m2 a month it shows commitment and good management.
a typical day at work is when there were previous blasting mis-fires and have to go start afresh to re-examine those blasting holes and another worse typical day is when a person has been crushed by a hanging wall or moving machines underground. I learned to always keep my work team safe and to work according to standard at all times more special by wearing the correct PPE. Managing a crew is good to me for the fact that I always work according to standard at all time underground. My core-workers always communicate with me because that is what I also do to them. the hardest part of the job is when the smoke is pumping slowly and the RDO's have to stay a long time drilling. the most enjoyable part of the job is when we celebrate the free facility shifts (no injuries and accidents).
