Lacks development
The organization is too political and is controlled by politics and ran by politicians. That really needs to change in this day and age. The corruption needs to come to an end as well.
Military Practitioner in Cape Town, Western Cape
on 24 March 2022
Unproductive, sludge-work, stagnant, and extremely bureaucratic
A typical day can vary from being in a fire drill (if you find yourself in the SA Navy, for example) for the umpteenth time to being bored half to death because management has run out of ideas on keeping personnel busy. You will learn only what the organisation requires for you to perform whichever monotonous drudgery will be your mustering. Management comprises idiots whose only mission is to constantly remind you of how much they outrank you unless you brown-nose your way into their good graces; that's the workplace culture, by the way. The hardest part of the job is dealing with the bureaucratic B.S. That's sadly part and parcel of being part of an autocratic system like the military. Deployments are the only way to make some sizeable money, but often with some conditions. If you are a critical-thinker, free-thinking, self-sufficient, opinionated, intelligent person that hates routine and being told what to do, when to do it and how to do it, (basically following stupid orders from some idiot who happens to outrank you), then please don’t bother with joining the defence force. You can put your brain to better use than that because being in the defence forces where your talents will go to waste here, and you will only be frustrated to no end.
