Good technical company. High integrity and focus on safety and quality. Results very important but direction from international management not always in touch with regional challenges. Downturn in worldwide mining activities and resultant loss of work forced management to take drastic action, and they opted to close manufacturing facilities all over the world and moved work to a few of the larger factories. Work was technically challenging.
Pros
Good benefits (Pension, carscheme, medical, canteen)
Cons
International interests came first. Local interests not considered.

Sandvik was a excellent learning curve for me personally whereby management shared the cumulative skills to improve my understanding of running a business. Tasks were delegated to myself to help improve company overall output which was task driven and enjoyable. Sometimes pressures of certain tasks did take a toll on my abilities to deliver but most employees were there to relieve some of those pressures. Most employees were helpful and wanted to learn which is great for team spirit.
Pros
Excellent benefits
Cons
Phoned at home alot from employees needing help.

I get to work and check if all the jobs for the previous day were done and check if the correct parts were drawn out of the stores. Then I start capturing the service papers the completed. I work closely with the supervisors and the maintentance manager in order for me to know what services are done and will be planned. The hardest part is to try and talk to the artisans about how important it is to complete the paperwork. I enjoy my job because it is my first real job and I am learning alot about the co operate world.
Pros
International exposure
Cons
Not as challenging as I would have liked it to be

Company operates 24 hours during weekdays with three shift system. It taught me to work independently without supervision and also to be a team player. The management changes/rotates every now and then to other branches. The colleagues are always helpful and accomodating especially when you are a new employee. Most difficult part of my job was when i couldn't repair the breakdown in the middle of the night(03:00), and the enjoyable part is that i loved everything about my job i.e. new challenges every day.

The day I failed to assemble the boom extension tube until I got helped by a colleague. To be patient to people of different cultures and languages To absorb the pressure from the management in bad times and their willingness to help when you need their assistance. My co-workers are easy understanding people and we are like of the same family as we from different cultures and languages. The hardest part of the job when you cannot solve the breakdown for that day you feel guilty. To do your job accurately within a short space of time and learning new things every day.
Pros
No person pushing you to work, you know what are you here for.
Cons
normal working 9hours and even more sometimes due to breakdowns

I report to the anglo site and as a contractor to anglo to do maintenance on trackless mining machine.I learned a lot during my experience, and most important lesson I lent is if a machine is not getting alright anger is not the solution. The co-workers are supportive.Changing the transmission when I first joint the company,it was a very hard job to do.Finding the solution of the problem on the machine is the most enjoyable part of the job

I believe in teamwork. In life you cannot know everything, you need to be a team player to achieve results.I am always willing to go the extra miles to achieve my targets at work.I have worked under pressure in a lot of instances & managed to finish my assigned task within the stipulated time.I also believe that one's strength lies in knowing their weaknesses, & by working around them one can achieve one's goals in life.In some companies I worked for, I realized that some senior employees use harshness to hide their weaknesses. In some instances the targets that I was required to meet were impossible. Most enjoyable part of my job is seeing your completed drawing "ISSUED FOR CONSTRUCTION"

High pressure to get production with very old machines what I have learned is that one must make quick decisions. As for my management team are very dedicated and supportive in helping to get issues sorted out.I work with a amazing crew and always willing to help one another and back each other at all times. The hardest part of my job is the fact we work underground and the work conditions are stressful but the best part of my job is that I don't have weather problems and I am always learning some thing new every day.
