Working at the SANDF was great..With no experience I was learning alot and could also adapt very quickly..Sometimes stressed but I could handle it..There I really learn how to respect my fellow workers and also dissipline was the most important..The work itself was not difficult because we were working as a team always there to help each other..For myself I really achieve so many learning skills like finishing my matric doing diffirent courses all in the expense of the Navy and I so thankful for that..Today I can use that skills in other working places and also learn other people of my experience..For me it was such a great 26years working for the Navy..It was really fun and you feel also positive and good about yourself..If I could I wouldnt mine to go back to work for the Navy because the Navy was my life..

Procurement

I enjoyed working at the SANDF. I have learnt a lot about computer work, didn't know anything when I joined. The management was superb, knew how to run the base and keep the soldiers motivated. We as a unit took many awards. I have been on many courses such as 1. Procurement 2. Stores 3. Weapons and Ammunition 4. Urban Warfare. I have been given many opportunities to expand myself as a leader. I have no regrets joining the SANDF

It is very boring at work, commanders are abusive and aggressive, there are no challenges

This is one stressful and boring job ever.... Salary is low and expectations are very high, your time is demanded but no appreciation.....Uniform is wearing out and the needs of employees are not really considered.

Good team work and loyalty.

The S.A.N.D.F. gave me work in 2002 when I was still a young man they brought me up and taught me to respect one another no matter your race, culture, fender or sexual orientation. It taught me how to respect people and also how to earn the respect of others. I am very gratefull for the opportunities I was given.

Pros

Almost free medical, housing, travell allowance to pay for food and accomodation.

Cons

Long hour shifts and little money for working weekends.

Promotion is a huge problem

I worked for 17 years and got R640 000 pension, now my salary is almost that amount per year. I was a corpral for years and did my promotional courses in 2014 to be a Sergeant but resigned without getting promoted.

Good experiance

I started my career in the deference force and it was a very wonderful environment to start building from the beginning with good discipline and norms that we were drilled into us. I've learned a great deal with them and that gave me a good foundation to build on.
