Loved working for Sportsmans Warehouse, although the salary was low, the people almost made it worth it. Really flexible, especially around education/medical/family concerns. Accommodating, and truly cares about your well being.

The job itself is great, it's a fun place to work but corporate ties your hands and makes you feel replaceable instead of appreciated. The pay is very low but the discount is great.
Pros
Great discount, fun place.
Cons
Corporate micromanagement, pay

Good Ol' boys club for sure. Employees were paid minimum wage, they got a raise when the minimum wage went up. Management cares nothing about employees, not knows how to manage people, just numbers. The turnover is astronomical. I was there 3 years, during that time, we went through 2 GM's, the last one was major bi-polar, and should have been medicated, 4 office managers, 4 receiving managers, 4 softgoods managers and 3 hunting managers.
Pros
employee discount
Cons
everything

They seem to think they pay a great wage when in fact the pay Leas than you are able to live on. What good is an employee discount if you can’t afford rent and groceries let alone buying stuff from the store

They need new management from the top down. They have no communication with anyone. I hope the merger happens and they all lose their jobs. SW is a horrible company. Online orders is a joke, nothing in stock, nothing in when you need it at the right time, buyers know nothing about each of their stores. I hope store in Coon Rapids takes a nose dive.
Pros
Nothing

Everything

Sportsmans has been an awesome place to work! I have been given many opportunities to advance since I’ve worked here and the few problems I’ve had with management have been addressed in a very timely manner.

Excellent growth opportunities, new programs and processes being built daily, buy in from the top down on new ideas and contributions. All in all, a very fast paced, high energy environment where you can learn and grow personally and professionally.
Pros
Growth, learning, flexibility
Cons
Market competitiveness, at times limited resources

After restructuring and downsizing from Chapter 11, they don't seem to have learned their lesson. They are gobbling up buildings and opening new stores at an incredible pace. One that isn't being kept up by the Distribution Center(Utah) and weekly deliveries. Oh, don't get me wrong, they deliver, but the variation of goods across stores is a joke. And, I am not referring to things that fit each environment or territory, but the everyday things. Perhaps some Buyers get better treatment or the District Managers have more product pull? Or, maybe the Dept. Managers at store level don't know how to use Oracle Report Building, etc to find open SKU's. IDK, but it sucks down morale and if you have an idea its either squashed or taken and no credit is given. O, you might get a .25 cent raise, but its unlikely. You can make more flipping burgers, seriously. tb
Pros
Goods at cost+10%
Cons
No opportunity for growth, low, low pay.

I worked at the distribution center and when I first started it was easy going and fairly laid back but after a couple of months I realized why the turnover rate was so awful, communication between management members is awful. You'll get asked to do a task by one lead just to get interrupted by a different one to do something completely different. Management will also lie and say that you have to do mandatory overtime when it was voluntary and will use fear tactics to try and get you to work faster/harder. And if you have a question about anything or try to clarify something you can very well get talked down to like you're unintelligent. Management members will also stress one another and then take it out on employees.
Pros
Weekends off
Cons
Poor management, low pay, no opportunity to advance

Noone with a family can afford to work full time for Sportsman's Warehouse. Wages are minimum wage, hours are long, benefits are expensive. Not time offered. Management only cares about money and doesn't have any interest in emplyee well being.

Really fun to learn outdoors gear and be in constant contact with customers with similar interests. Management can be too hands off when they need to be hands on and too hands on when it doesn’t matter as much. Overall full of great people. Some issues on the technical side of things but the work is too simple for it to become much of an issue.
Pros
Great discount, great people, fun environment.
Cons
Odd management styles, lack of resources.

Pay isn’t bad only because the discount is good, managers constantly push selling credit cards and often times your work isn’t appreciated. It’s very clique and seems like a high school.
Pros
Discount, easy work
Cons
Management, associates

The management belittles employees for his personal gain. Talks down to his employees with his unprofessional approach to working with youth. Lack of experience and professionalism.

Worked here for 5 years and they are not ones to give raises easily. No matter how hard you work or how much you sale, it’s a matter of how good you are with the manager. They heavily discouraged employees talking about wages due to it being unfair and more of a popularity contest. There were people who started on, with no experience, at a higher wage than some great long time employees. Store Managers in all the stores I worked were pretty terrible. You had some wonderful shining stars who cared about their employees in their departments, but the company and demands of corporate drove the good ones out. The company as a whole has gone downhill in the last 3 to 4 years. Products gets cheaper, the hours get thinner, as well as the staffing. Rumor is they began to buy smaller stores to cut down on staffing but still dealing with the same flow of customers. Unfortunately, it has become less about customer service and more about making credit card capture quotas. Do not go full time with them. They will treat you like garbage and run you into the ground. You do not get paid vacation until one year of being a full time employee. Doesn’t sound too bad, but eventually it’s tiring dealing with the craziness of retail. Not only that but you can’t take four days in a row off without having to work ten due to the requirement to fill 73 hours in a work period. The wage isn’t worth it for what they make you do. Now with COVID you are expected to go above and beyond working in every department even if you don’t have experience. Management doesn’t do a good job of training and they just kind - more...
