Balancing work and personal life.

I feel sometimes it becomes so stressful to a point where you forget about you and you only live as an employee of SBSA, not as an individual. I love the people, they teach young people like us to always strive for success, don't settle, get what you want.

Great company with some of the most talented people in the industry.

Standard Bank was a fantastic company with some of the most talented people in the financial services sector. The company was superb in nurturing and growing its people and allowed them the freedom to be innovative and instilled a great sense of values and instilled a culture of traditional values. The management was unique in the sense that managers acted a enablers and supporters of all team functions, very effected in bringing out the best in people and allowing everybody in the team to reach their fullest potential. I was taught everything about finance and banking. I was challenged to always "go for it" and to "dive in the deep end".

Pros

Fantastic organisation in people management and relationship building.

Cons

long hours and lack of family time.

A productive and pleasant working environment

The greatest thing about working at this bank's branch was the exposure of the banking world! I started at the bottom working as a bank-teller, relieving the telephone receptionist during lunch, then as a customer service consultant and finally as account analyst or account support officer. I also helped driving sales for the branch. The branch manager at the time saw a leader in me and really helped me in achieving a lot of my goals by sending me on all courses that would enhance my career. The highlight of my banking career must have been when I won an all expenses paid trip to Sydney, Australia for being voted the "best service consultant!" The hardest part of my job was having to call clients to tell them about their overdrawn accounts.

Pros

Lots of exposure and motivation

Cons

Long commute to work

Motivated teams and management, high work ethic and a conducive work place

A typical day at work is always fast paced and involves a lot of stimulation of the mind. I have leaned to think on the spot as I always have to provide answers to clients and come up with solutions to their financial problems. I have also learned that as much as I have to go out of my way to find these solutions, there are some clients that cannot be assisted for compliance or risk purposes, and I have learned that I have to be honest with those clients and give them the bad news in the most earnest way I can and if there is something I can do to rehabilitate their financial status then I must do it. Standard Bank management is very motivated and is always looking at ways to better develop their teams in order to help them to achieve the Bank's goals. The hardest part of the job is not being able to assist a client and the most enjoyable part is getting recognition from both your clients and colleagues for a job well done

Very exciting bunch of people, different culture, dynamics.

No 2 days are the same, from the queries to the reviews, to the request. Dealing with the top end of business customers, you learn the different industries, how they operate, how they managed, people are different in every company work place. You need to listen to the customer, have an understanding of his/her business and once you have these basics it helps to make your job a little easier. The work place has people from 2 years’ experience to the 28years,so you sure to get the correct help , guidance in need. Everyone is always willing to assist, fill in when a portfolio is vacant. At the end of every day you reflect what difference have you made to a customer business, how you helped the customer reach their full potential, how you helped with that urgent Temporary Excess when he or she was in dire needs. Having achieved this daily makes you want to come back and do it all over again.

Best company to work for with levels of integrity

Best company to work for, high team spirit, believe and practice its values Learnt to be proactive and a avoid mishaps. Dealing with irate customers makes you feel in charge of the situation Open communication channels and good team work Having to figure out some of the things yourself, dealing with a query you've never come across before. When you are considered a champ because you understand a certain area of your job and you have to take the rest of the team through.

Pros

free T-shirts, health assessments, lunches and other promotional items

Cons

short lunch breacks on monthends

Workplace with lot of stress

Phoning customers to do reviews. Listening to customer's about the problems they have in the farming industry. Management do not always understand the industry you work in. The hardest part of the job is to go back to clients telling them that the bank is not willing to help them when you know that they desparetly need funds

Pros

bonus 13th cheqye

Cons

long hours and they do no always appreciate what you do
