High energy, competitive environment with great career growth potential
Merchandise Buyer (Former Employee) - Cape Town - 17 April 2023
Indeed Featured review
The most useful review selected by IndeedGreat company to learn and grow as a fashion merchant. Tough company culture, especially for people of colour. No representation of black management. Management style across all departments is "micro management ". GREAT merchant training program. You will learn a lot. Pay and incentives are good and reviewed regularly. Long notice period and strict restraint of trade if you resign.

A company that micromanaged and overworked staff
Buyer (Former Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 12 June 2023
Unfortunately Truworths is a company that prides itself on micromanaging staff in all levels of the business There’s little to no work life balance and its the most stressful and unrewarding job I’ve worked in. Especially if you have kids.
Cons
Long hours, micromanaged, lack of growth as most junior staff leave, extremely high staff turnover, contract locks you in and can’t find another job afterwards.

Great for students, long hours, pay not so great. 8 hours a day on your feet, very little room for growth especially into management roles. Not a job that one will stick to for many years.

Fun,Exciting
Sales Consultant (Former Employee) - South Africa - 28 March 2023
Working at truworths is a great opportunity, you work with customers, gain fashion experience and learn how to work with different colors and styles. Working as a fashionista you should be able to know the different clothes for every season and always know the color.
Pros
Nothing
Cons
Long hours, working every weekend as a flexi timer

It is what you make of it
Flexi timer (Current Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 1 March 2023
Company take 5 months to hire new people so you end up having to work double shifts which exhausts yourself. The salary as a flexi is not worth it and you hardly get a weekend off

The company is Decent. Innovation is vital.
Sales Consultant (Current Employee) - Cape Town, Western Cape - 5 February 2023
Truworths is good at putting a good idea into practice to see the outcome. A hard worker with potential, they will try not to let go. Thus, making you feel you are an important employee. I learnt communication skills, to please customers and how to make them feel welcome. Vital! 'Back pay' is the pain you really go through. The hours worked and an error occurred with your end month payments. I can imagine those who are students can be upset. If you are fashion enthusiastic, being forced to look good can be a great day starter. Feeling good in what you wear can at least add on to a positive day.
Pros
Innovation
Cons
Back-pay or/ and hours or/ and shifts

very stressful and no appreciate or even appraisal, knock off at 6 u leave around 7 or 8
Sales Consultant (Current Employee) - Limpopo - 16 December 2022
I will would Rather die of hunger than work for that company ever again, I have its always resignations, and I I thought I could handle the abuse by ignoring because if you express how you feel, I you are not respecting your elders, but I it's a family company, the area managers and managers at my region they appoint they families to better post or management post, and and tell you, you will die a flexi timer(casual)
Pros
15-30 minutes lunch
Cons
long hours

Informative & Light-hearted workplace
Sales Consultant (Former Employee) - Vosloorus, Gauteng - 31 October 2022
Truworths is a good company to get a foundation in retail. You are cross-trained in different departments so you get to know the operations of the whole store. There's values which unite the team from all levels, and feedback is given often on your work which makes learning easier. The kind of management you're under usually determines the work-place atmosphere and structure.

Fun place
Flexi timer (Current Employee) - Gauteng - 27 September 2022
A fun place to be, but you don't grow simple. Working hard without being recognized. They expect you to always deliver no matter the bad situations you are facing outside

Fun workplace
Sales Consultant (Former Employee) - Soweto, Gauteng - 6 September 2022
The salary is little but the environment is very healthy. We do fun activities that give us strength to get through the day. I really enjoyed working here but there's no growth and the salary is too little and hourly based.
