It was a great learning experience. There's nothing more I can say about it other than it offers you a great learning platform and social skills. It also teaches you how to work with your peers cohesively

Relaxed and Great communication from administration

I invigilated test sessions and assisted students with weekly quizzes. I also prepared the test areas i.e., put all the answer sheets on the tables. There is a timesheet to sign for hours worked.

Great to make money while studying

Making money while studying is the best part about being a teaching assistant. No interview needed just approach a lecturer and ask to be their teaching assistant

Can be a lot of work if u take on multiple roles

Productive and fun workplace

My personal experience at Wits was great and beneficial, I wouldn’t trade it with other jobs. The atmosphere it give one a piece of mind and sense of belonging makes you part of the important family I’ve ever had.

Productive yet stressful

The company is not bad overall, however they could do with a few structural changes. Like making people from minority backgrounds feel included as this was lacking

Very fast-paced and challenging environment

The job requires someone quick on their feet, ethics, and a willingness to learn. It is challenging and Universities are complex environments. Love it.

Great place to learn

I gained so much. Still use it all all the time. Great culture. Great teams. Fast moving. Still wish I had stayed. They know what they are doing.

Stay away

Stay away from working here. Way too much politics and self-preservation happening between staff. Management does not care about employees and everything is about politics

Supportive, productive and friendly environment

I was a Postgraduate Research Administrator and enjoyed every moment at the Wits School of Public Health (WSPH). My interaction with students and academics globally was exciting. We were constantly encouraged to further our studies with available university staff bursaries. I have acquired extensive skills and knowledge through Wits. I would recommend this world class institution to anyone.

Pros

Staff bursaries.

Cons

Need to know how to handle pressure.

Good place to work with a few cons

Great place to work. Good work/life balance. Racism still an ever present issue. Pays well but there is a glass ceiling. Working at the place is very satisfying if you enjoy research and lecturing.

Pros

Best

I received a formal substantial training with regards to the work environment. I was trained how to phrase professional emails, what intonation to use when when make a professional phone call and how to host big companies at Wits. I learned some of the things they couldn't teach me on my own as an innovative student. To mention one I learned InDesign and published a newsletter

Pros

Get to learn whiles still a student, and make extra income

Cons

Have to sometimes balance hard between work and school

Short sighted management

Management will place the incorrect individuals in positions and wonder why projects fail. They will then over pay others and wonder why there is resentment.

Productive and empowering

A typical day involves data capturing and data collection, teaching as well as related research. I learn about consumer behaviour and the best ways to be a successful digital marketer. The workplace culture is conducive for working and growing.
