Productive and fun place to work

I learned alot from my senior colleagues in terms of how to go about approaching certain things to get the project done in a way that makes it both presentable and easy to read.

Learning Experience

This position taught me a lot about people management as well as building the confidence to speak in public. I enjoyed my time at WSP however I was not challenged.

Good exposure to different kind of projects, including large projects.

Typical day at work would consist mainly of design work. Through experience I have learned to become a more accomplished designer. Management is well structured which a clear hierarchy tree. Workplace culture is good. The hardest part of the job was sometimes the lack of progress. That was the reason why I left in 2007. I soon obtained my professional registration afterwards and got more project management experience. However, the grass was not always greener on the other side. The most enjoyable part of the job was the exposure to the bigger projects.

Civil & Structures

There is a technical disadvantage and your co workers might not be equally skilled. Management is not in touch with what is happening on the floor. There is some enjoyable moments, but those are short lived. There is also no bonus schemes for the ordinary staff members.

Pros

Flexi time

Cons

No Bonus

Good environment to learn HVAC systems

The typical arrival time is between 6:45 - 7:30 am. I learned about HVAC and refrigeration systems in the industry. I was managed by the commercial - industrial engineering director and given work to do by one of the consulting engineers. The hardest part was learning all the terminology and trying to keep up with the details explanations. The most enjoyable part was seeing a practical aspect of what I learned in varsity.

Pros

Great colleagues.

Cons

Long hours.
