Job Advert Summary

To establish, lead and grow Babcock's Defence Business Unit by developing and executing the business strategy, building organisational capability, driving sustainable and profitable growth, strengthening strategic customer and stakeholder relationships, delivering operational excellence and ensuring the highest standards of governance, safety, security, compliance and ethical conduct in alignment with Babcock's strategic objectives.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Defence Studies, Business Management, Commerce, or related field.
  • Postgraduate qualification (MBA or Master's Degree) is advantageous.
  • Executive leadership or defence management qualifications will be an added advantage.
  • 15+ years' senior leadership experience within the defence, aerospace, engineering or military support sectors.
  • Extensive experience in business development, government contracting, defence procurement, and securing large-scale strategic contracts.
  • Proven track record of establishing, leading, and growing a business or business unit with full profit and loss accountability.
  • Strong knowledge of the African and Middle East defence landscape, stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance, export controls and governance requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the Defence Business Unit, including the development of the operating model, organisational structure, governance framework, systems, processes, capabilities and leadership team required to support sustainable growth.
  • Develop and execute the Defence Business Unit strategy, positioning Babcock as a leading defence solutions provider across Africa, as well as Middle East & South Asia with UK team.
  • Drive business growth, revenue, profitability and market expansion through strategic partnerships, tenders, acquisitions, contract negotiations and entry into new markets.
  • Build and maintain senior relationships with Defence Ministries, Armed Forces, government departments, OEMs, regulators, industry bodies and key stakeholders.
  • Lead and oversee all operational, engineering, programme delivery, logistics and customer support activities to ensure contract delivery excellence and customer satisfaction.
  • Accountable for the overall financial performance of the business unit, including revenue growth, profitability, budgeting, cash flow and commercial performance.
  • Ensure compliance with defence regulations, export controls, security requirements, corporate governance standards and applicable legislation across all operating territories.
  • Identify, assess, and manage strategic, commercial, operational, financial, legal, safety, security and reputational risks.
  • Build, lead and develop a high-performing leadership team while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, safety, ethics, and operational excellence.
  • Represent Babcock as the primary executive for the Defence Business Unit, enhancing the organisation's reputation and strategic positioning within the African and international defence sectors.
