How To Close Your Job Advert

You can change the status of your job advert on Indeed at any time – whether you want to pause applications, close a filled vacancy or reopen a position. This article explains how to update your vacancy's status and what each status means.

How to change a vacancy's status

Sign in to your Indeed account.
Select Jobs and All Jobs on the left-hand navigation pane.
Select the Status of the job on the right-hand side of the page.
Choose a status (Open, Paused or Closed) from the drop-down menu.

Important: If your job advert is sourced from your career site or applicant tracking system (ATS), you'll need to remove or close it there first. This ensures it's also removed from Indeed's search results.

What each status means

Open

Your job appears in search results.
If your listing is a Sponsored Job, it can draw from your budget to help increase visibility and attract more applications.

Paused

Pause a job if you're getting a high volume of applications and want time to review candidates:

Your job is removed from search results.
Spending stops while the job is paused.
The advert remains visible in your jobs dashboard.
Candidates will also remain available for review until you close the job.

Closed

Close a job when you've recruited or no longer need to fill the position:

Your job is removed from search results.
The job is archived for future reference in your closed job list.
The job can be used as a template for the future.
Your spending for this job stops.

Important: All outstanding payments for Sponsored Job adverts will be processed on the first day of the following month. When you downgrade a job from Sponsored to Free, you may still incur remaining charges for billable activity on our site. These charges will never exceed your maximum budget.

FAQs

Question: Can I reopen a closed job?

Answer: Yes. You can reopen a closed job from your jobs dashboard. When you reopen a job, Indeed may ask why you are reopening it. The posted date will update when the job is reopened.

Tip: Want to post a similar vacancy but without the previous spend or candidate history? Create a new vacancy using the previous one as a template. You don't need to reopen the closed vacancy.

Question: Will pausing a Sponsored Jobs posting affect my budget?

Answer: Yes. Pausing an advert stops all spending straight away. If you reopen the job, spending may CV depending on your sponsorship settings.

Question: Will my job advert appear in search results immediately after I set it to Open?

Answer: Maybe. New or reopened jobs may go through moderation before appearing in search results.

If your job is sourced from an ATS or career site, make sure it is active there first. Changes made on Indeed alone won't override a closed or expired source feed.

In some cases, a job may also be flagged if it is ineligible for visibility or requires sponsorship.
