Full job description

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy duties with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Assist doctors with clinical procedures, ensuring efficiency and patient comfort.
  • Conduct diagnostic assessments including ECG, LBC's, running drip lines, stress tests, and lung function evaluations.
  • Provide holistic patient management, delivering compassionate and comprehensive care.
  • Maintain and calibrate equipment used for phlebotomy, ensuring compliance and readiness.
  • Monitor and manage stock levels for phlebotomy supplies to support uninterrupted service delivery.
  • Safeguard patient and client confidentiality at all times.
  • Complete and maintain temperature logs, decontamination logs, and ensure proper disposal of medical waste (needles, swabs, etc.) in line with protocols.
  • Accurately complete all relevant documentation.
  • Handle cash transactions and billing reconciliations with accountability and precision.
  • Actively follow up and chase laboratory results to ensure timely reporting to patients and doctors.

Qualifications

  • Registered with SANC/HPCSA (valid for 2026).
  • Diploma/Degree in Nursing or equivalent recognized qualification.
  • Exceptional phlebotomy skills and demonstrated knowledge of intravenous therapy.
  • Strong customer service orientation with excellent communication skills.

Experience

  • 1–10 years of nursing experience in primary healthcare and phlebotomy.
  • Experience in laboratory or healthcare environments advantageous.

  • Phlebotomy procedures and intravenous therapy.
  • Primary healthcare practices and patient management.
  • Laboratory documentation and billing processes.
  • Medical equipment maintenance and stock control.
