Full job description

SHEQ Systems Compliance Officer

Job purpose summarised:

The SHEQ Systems Compliance Officer is responsible for managing and maintaining the company's integrated food safety, quality, and occupational health and safety frameworks. The primary focus of this role is to address mounting compliance backlogs, close technical gaps, and ensure continuous alignment with GFSI-recognised standards (specifically FSSC 22000 v6) and SMETA guidelines.

Working under the Technical Manager, the appointee will oversee change control systems, validate corrective actions (CARs/NCRs), manage environmental monitoring protocols, and assertively drive cross-functional teams to meet strict compliance deadlines within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment

Experience needed:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in a Quality, Food Safety, or SHEQ compliance role strictly within the FMCG food manufacturing industry (or related field).
  • Proven experience working directly with Change Control systems, CARs, and NCRs, with a demonstrated ability to evaluate corrective action evidence before signing off.
  • Exposure to high-risk processing lines (such as UHT, cultured products, or complex blending environments) is highly advantageous.
  • Practical experience assisting with rootcause analysis tools and managing integrated frameworks (Food Safety, Quality, and basic OHS files). Prior exposure to Sedex/SMETA is a plus.

Educational background:

  • Minimum requirement: B.Sc. degree or National Diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or an equivalent B.Sc. related scientific degree.
  • Certified training or strong working knowledge of FSSC 22000 v6 and/or BRCGS Global Standard for Food Safety (or other GFSI recognised standards).

Relevant knowledge needed:

  • Comprehensive understanding of GFSIrecognized food safety standards (specifically FSSC 22000 v6).
  • Strong working knowledge of sanitation studies and environmental swabbing protocols (ATP, water testing).
  • Understanding of the 4 pillars of SMETA (Labour Standards, Health & Safety, Environment, and Business Ethics) and basic national OHS legislation frameworks.
  • Proficiency in operating digital food safety systems (e.g., FoodComply).
